How to Refund a Steam Game: Step by Step

Unsatisfied with the game you purchased on Steam? that’s ok, it happened to us so many times that we now feel safe to just buy a game, try it out, and if we don’t like it, to simply refund it.

Even if we have purchased the game for cheap, money is still money and if you’re like any other gamer, we don’t like wasting money on bad games, because we’d rather invest in good games that we’re going to play for a long time.

In order to refund a steam game, the following conditions must apply:

  1. You’ve purchased the game at most two weeks ago
  2. You have less than two hours of playtime.

Conditions on refunding other Steam products (like DLCs, In-Game purchases) may be different.

If you meet the conditions above, follow this step by step guide to refund your steam game (and yes, we are refunding Test Drive Unlimited, because… oh well.)

Refunding a Steam Game

First, Navigate to the Steam Support website while logged in with your Steam account.

Choose the game you’d like to refund. If you can’t find it in the top 4, then you’ll find it under Games, Software, etc. tab.

Then, click on “It’s not what I expected”

Afterwards, click on “I’d like to request a refund”

On the next screen, you can select the method you want the refund to happen with. You can either choose to refund to your original payment method (in our case, PayPal) or a refund in Steam Wallet credit. Steam Wallet credits are credits you can use to purchase other games inside the Steam Store, or marketplace items.

We have paid for the game partially using PayPal, and partially using Steam Wallet. So, the equivalent funds will go back to the equivalent payment method.

Select a reason below in the “Tell us why” section. For us, the reason is simply that Test Drive Unlimited was not enough fun for us. Yes, this is a valid reason. Afterwards, click “Submit Request”

A page will open telling you that your help request has been submitted. Once Steam Support reviews your request, they (most probably) will conduct the refund. In special cases where the game can not be refunded, Steam Support will send you an email notifying you of that.

We hope this guide helped you.
