How to Fix Windows 10 Build 19041 Error in God of War Ragnarök

If you’re like many other gamers anticipating God of War Ragnarök, and are running Windows 10, you may have hit the blocker that prevents you from playing the game: when you boot the game up, you receive an error saying You need at least Windows 10 build 19041.

Fortunately, the developers have suggested a fix. In the fix, two workarounds are suggested, both of them based on not running the game in compatibility mode.

First Solution: Un-check Compatibility Mode for Steam

  1. Close Steam client
  2. Navigate, with Windows Explorer, to the path C:\Users\[YOUR USER]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Steam
  3. Right-click on the Steam icon and select Open File Location so you could navigate to the actual directory that contains your Steam executable.
  4. Right click on the Steam icon and press Properties
  5. Select the Compatibility tab
  6. Un-check the box that says Run this program in compatibility mode for:
  7. Select Apply
  8. Click OK
  9. Try launching the game via Steam again.

Second Solution: Un-check Compatibility Mode for the Game

  1. Right click on the game in your steam library.
  2. Select Manage
  3. Select Browse Local Files
  4. Right click on the game .exe file and then select Properties
  5. Select the compatibility tab
  6. Un-check the box that says Run this program in compatibility mode for:
  7. Select Apply
  8. Click OK
  9. Try launching the game via Steam again.
