How to Fix GeForce Experience Failed Driver Installation

We’ve all been there: there’s a new game out that you’re eager to play, so you naturally want to go and update your GeForce driver to ensure you are running the latest technologies to support it. And then, out of the blue, the installation fails:

Not cool, NVIDIA. Not cool. Luckily, the most common fix for this is doing a manual clean install. Let’s dive in and see how to do that.

Download the latest NVIDIA Game Ready Driver

Navigate to NVIDIA’s official drivers page and download the driver for your graphics card. For example, I have the RTX 3080, and this is what I filled in the form:

Close any programs you have open before you proceed to the next step.

Launch the Driver Installation in Administrator Mode

Right click on the executable that you downloaded and select “Run as administrator.” If you are prompted by the User Account controller, click on Yes.

In the next screen, specify where the temporary files will be stored. Our recommendation is to use the default path – just click OK.

Installation Process

Choose which components to install. We recommend installing GeForce Experience since it is a useful app that can help you configure your gaming experience further.

Next, choose Custom (Advanced) installation.

On the next screen, make sure you select “Perform a clean installation.”

Click on Next to begin the installation.

Once the installation has finished, reboot your PC for the changes to take effect.

Hope this helped!
