God of War Ragnarök for PC is off to a Bad Start

God of War Ragnarök has finally hit the PC gaming realm, and it’s a momentous occasion for those of us who love wielding Kratos mighty axe and exploring mythic realms.

We would’ve expected that this game would hit the esteemed “Overwhelmingly Positive” review grade on its Steam page, but that is far from being the case.

As it stands now, a few hours after release, the game has a Mixed review grade. When looking at the majority of negative reviews, one would expect they’d be about performance, bugs, and similar technical things.

Surprise! It is because the developers and publishers require you to have a PlayStation Network Account to play the game, despite it being a PC game and is single-player. Uh oh.

Here are the rivers and rivers of negative reviews:

Runakai: incredibly frustrating to see the enforcement of a PSN account for a SINGLE PLAYER game. No matter how good the game is, you shouldn’t be forced to do that.
drake_oficcial.2011: ban all 3rd party logins for steam, steam should operate entirely by owning a steam account and nothing else, especially to even PLAY the game which again, is singleplayer.

LinkkJaxon: This game requires a playstation network account to play and the support for reactivating such an account is spotty at best.
Beelzebob: PSN account required. For a single player game.

And the list goes on, and on, and on.

One user, Rhavan, even wrote a poem about the issue. Yes, a magnificent poem:

I bought God of War, ready to slay,
But Sony steps in, blocking my way.
“Sign in to PSN,” they bark like a beast,
Before I play, they need their feast.

My data’s the sacrifice, not Mjolnir or blades—
Just digits and numbers for their corporate raids.
Email, birthdate, card info too,
All so they can milk a dime out of you.

Screw your “community,” your digital sham,
I just wanted to crush gods—not give a damn.

That made us giggle.
